Facebook announced Monday, the creation of their particular ‘group of wise men’, a council composed of five organizations across North America and Europe’s leading Internet security to act as consultant for the company in matters relating to online security.
The five organizations that make up the Facebook Safety Advisory Board are Childnet International, WiredSafety,

Facebook is expected to meet periodically with the committee and review the security resources it consistently delivers to its members, the development of new materials and for advice on the best security practices in general.

Last week, the New York Attorney General referred to the cooperation of Facebook in the identification and deactivation of accounts belonging to sex offenders and in 2008, the social network giants signed agreements with 49 Attorneys Generals to assist in protecting children from potential pedophiles Online.
Facebook is also a part of the Internet Safety Technical Task Force, a group of companies, consisting of nonprofit organizations, professionals and technology experts that are working to identify tools to create a safe place on the Internet for youngsters. Facebook is also linking up with MTV on a Thin Line campaign to prevent the abuse of digital media and they are working with the BBC to promote the campaign “Bullyproof” which aims to eliminate online bullying through the network.
